Kupuna Digital Literacy

Information on a new program which aims to help with computer literacy among seniors on Hawaii island. There will be several hundred free laptops distributed, and training in how to use them. See attached flyer for details. In Kona, the trainer will be Adrian. You can reach him by email at curation@gmail.com, or call him starting Wednesday at 808-747-2381.

2023 Joint Celebration in Japan

Joint Celebration Summary

A joint celebration commemorating the 850th anniversary of Shinran Shonin's birth and the 800th anniversary of the establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Teaching along with the 17th World Buddhist Women's Association Convention will be held in Kyoto, Japan in May 2023. The service will be held in the Founder's Hall of Nishi Hongwanji on May 10, 2023. The BWA World Convention will be held on May 11-12, 2023. Post tours around Japan are being planned. Please see the attached for more information.

If you are interested in attending please submit the attached Preliminary Application Form to Linda Nagai by December 31.

Samaritan Counseling Center of Hawaii Samaritan Counseling Center Hawaii offers professional and accessible behavioral health counseling sensitive to the spiritual traditions of individuals, families, and communities in Hawaii, regardless of their ability to pay. Telehealth counseling is available.

Hawaii CARES DOH Hawaii Cares – Hawaii Cares provides a team of trained and experienced professionals to help individuals in times of a mental health crisis. Hawaii CARES is there to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On Oahu, call at 832-3100. On the neighbor islands, call toll-free at 1-800-753-6879. COVID cases are rising exponentially in our community due to the Omicron surge. COVID testing is available at the Kona Aquatic Center and other locations. Please get vaccinated and encourage family and friends to do so as well. There is a disproportionate number of COVID cases among those who are unvaccinated. Plan to get your booster when you can. Let's all do our part to keep our community healthy and safe.

Copies of our Anniversary Cookbook have arrived just in time for the holidays!

Our cookbook features favorite recipes from temple members and will make a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, showers, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and other special occasions.

Cookbooks will be available for pick up on December 12, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the temple. You can also do some Christmas Shopping at our Mini Holiday Craft Fair.

If you are unable to attend the Craft Fair but would like to reserve your copy, please send in the attached order form with a check or money order. Please include the shipping charges if you want the cookbook mailed to you. You may also reserve your copy and pick up the cookbook at the temple

Sandy's Frozen Chili Pick-up

Redeem your chili tickets at Sandy’s Drive-In on Fridays and Saturdays in October. On several Saturdays from 10am to 2pm there will be a special Kona Hongwanji pop-up booth at Sandy's selling delicious homemade treats and handmade crafts. Check it out when picking up your chili.
